On 11 July 2024, at Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University, the iJAS Plus system, an external quality assessment tool, was successfully piloted by the Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment (ONESQA).

The International Joint Accreditation Standards (iJAS) is a cross-border quality assurance framework developed through collaboration between ONESQA, the Japan University Accreditation Association (JUAA), and the Taiwan Assessment and Evaluation Association (TWAEA). Its main goals are to enhance the quality of higher education institutions (HEIs), improve student learning outcomes, and promote the internationalization of HEIs across Asia. A key feature of iJAS is its focus on evaluating a university's internal quality assurance system.

While promoting internationalization, this evaluation also emphasizes the importance of preserving, expanding, and sharing Thai arts and culture, in alignment with HEI expertise and identity, and ensuring adherence to the Ministerial Ordinance on Higher Education Standards 2022 established by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI). This has led to the development of the iJAS Plus assessment method, which is internationally relevant but distinctly Thai.

Potential future benefits for HEIs assessed through this system include enhancing their international standing and competitiveness. Recognition for international quality assurance can facilitate forming international cooperation agreements for mutual recognition of academic credits among universities in Taiwan, Japan, and Thailand. It also supports the development of dual degree programs and exchange opportunities. Engaging in international quality assurance systems will broaden and deepen an institution's perspective through international assessments, leading to more diverse improvement suggestions. Additionally, the credibility of the professional assessment body in the region can make it easier for institutions to enter international markets, potentially attracting more international students. HEIs seeking to enhance their international visibility can apply for this type of assessment at ONESQA.
